View larger. | Fun, Easy-to-hold Design The LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal's quirky shape and animal-like appearance attracts a toddler's attention. The large knob design makes it easy for toddlers to hold it in their tiny hands. With its durable exterior, the Book Pal can withstand a toddler's rambunctious use over many years and is easy to clean with a damp cloth. The Book Pal's optical reader is cleverly tucked into the bottom portion so that fingers cannot touch the sensor. And it's simple to dust using a cotton swab. The batteries and USB port are safely stored behind a compartment that closes securely with a screw. An additional safety feature is the battery guard strap that firmly holds the batteries in place. A volume control button with low or high settings is located above the speakers on the front side of the Book Pal, while a conveniently placed on/off button is on the side. The speakers provide good, clear sound with little distortion. As a battery-saving feature, the Book Pal will turn off automatically after a period of inactivity. The Tag Junior Reading system comes with one Activity Storybook. Its colorful illustrations and interesting narrative will appeal to young children while the thick, durable board book construction is made to last. Advice for parents: keep food and beverages away from Tag Junior Book Pal as any spills could cause it to malfunction. Exploration with Every Touch The Tag Junior Reading System can engage toddlers for hours. By simply touching the Book Pal to a Tag Junior Book, children hear one of 130 responses or 24 book-based play activities. The responses can be songs, interesting sound effects, open-ended questions, amusing sentences, or reading aloud the text. Children can spend hours playing and exploring the different responses on every corner of the book. In many cases, they'll hear different responses when they touches the same spot in a book. The variety and randomness of the responses will keep their interest and initiate exploring the book over and over again. Store up to Five Books It's easy to use the LeapFrog Connect application that allows you to download audio to the Tag Junior Book Pal by connecting the USB cable (included) to a computer. Each book is centered on an important skill for toddlers to learn. Parents can print activity sheets, such as coloring pages, from the LeapFrog Connect site for additional activities and learning. You can also personalize the Tag Junior Reading System with your child's name so the Book Pal will incorporate his/her name into its greeting and farewell phrases. In order to download the Book Pal's audio feature, you will need a computer that has 256MB of RAM and 300MB of free disk space. The download process is straightforward and the additional resources on the LeapFrog connect site are well worth it. My two year old daughter absolutely loves books so I thought she would really enjoy the tag junior. My four year old daughter has the original tag (which is wonderful too!) and the younger one was always trying to get into it. I was so excited when I heard they were coming out with the junior version.
I had no problems setting it up yesterday. It took about 5 to 10 min to install and to download the audio from our PC. After it was ready to go, my two year old played with it for only a few minutes and I was a little disappointed. But I sat with her and showed her how to use it and then today she took her two books (the one it came with and I bought the Dora one also) and sat alone and played with them for a bit, about 3 or 4 separate times today. It was so cute! She loves it now! I can't wait to get more books.
Although it is built for little hands, it is still a little hard for her to hold, but I think she's getting the hang of it. The books are very short and I wish they were a bit longer, but she doesn't mind. When you click on the pictures, unlike the original tag, they say different things each time which is nice. Each picture goes through about 2 or 3 sayings before repeating the sayings.
Overall, I love this product and so does my two year old and I look forward to buying more books! |

| My son is 1 1/2 and loves books so I thought I would try this out. It is very sturdy and has held up to him dropping it several times. It is also very easy for him to hold and use. You can personalize the reader so that it greets your child with his name when you turn it on, ex "Hello _Timmy_" VERY CUTE. My son loves hearing this every time he turns it on. He has already mastered using the reader with the books. One note, if you buy extra books the reader will only hold information for about 5 books at a time. Also, for each book you need to download the information into the reader from the internet. This was a very easy process for me that realastically took no more than 5 minutes, but it is an extra step that you have to do. When you place the reader on different parts of the page it will respond with either a sound effect or mulitple quotes from the characters. Some of the books have questions which require the child to follow instrucitons like finding all of the Pooh's in the book, etc. This will continue to challenge him as he gets older. Overall, my son loves it and plays with it at least once a day. |

| If you are familiar with the Tag by Leapfrog the Tag Junior is the perfect companion for the younger crowd. My son is almost 3 and enjoys using his Tag junior. I had no trouble downloading the software from Leapfrog's website and getting the audio on the unit. I have even switched out the books numerous times without a hitch. I like that Leapfrog made this toy to fit his hand and to manuever the device just exactly as he naturally wants to. He really enjoys the ABC Orchestra book as well as Curious George to use with it. I just wish Leapfrog would provide more memory to store more books on the device. |
Great toy for the buck!!!!

| My daughter is a year and three months and has learned to turn it on and put it over objects in the book to make it work. She is a bit young for this toy;however, I found the tag Jr to be a better alternative to the $200 DVD set of "Teach your baby to read" which says you can use w babies as young as 6 mnths. I'm not saying this other product doesn't work because i haven't tried it, but personally I am happy I found the tag jr which essentially will accomplish the same thing...teach her to identify words, objects and sounds at a young age while allowing her to enjoy being a kid as this product is more of a "toy". She enjoys playing w this toy and it is something that will grow w her so i agree w the other review that states it is for younger children ages 1 1/2 to 3. A 4 year old wont get as much out of it. What i did absolutely love and appreciate is that the Tag Jr is able to say her name correctly. I decided to give her a name that can be pronounced in English or Spanish and I was surprised the Tag Jr gave us both options. I liked that it also gives you the option of printing activities from your own computer to go along w the lessons in each book since i enjoy being actively involved in what she is learning. One last thing...my husband does not want to "spoil" her and is rarely excited over a new toy but he was pretty impressed w this one and asked me how much I had spent; which was less than he thought. |
